I guess this will be a duplicate of my post in the intro forum:

Hey all

Long time lurker, Avid tapatalk searcher, first time poster.

Been barbecuing for about 10 years now. Started off with a wsm 18 moved to a wsm 22 then a Horizon offset. Unfortunately over this summer, my 2 soon to be 3 year old who is now spending more time outside, particularly since I’ve been out there cooking quite a bit, has driven me mad with taking too keen an interest in the fire in my firebox which regrettably les my wife and I deciding the offset had to go in favour of something safer [PENSIVE FACE].

Have now picked up a GMG Jim Bowie to replace it - and hoping I haven’t made the worst decision of my barbecue life.

We shall see.

Decided to join the forum as I see quite a few of you using pellet grills and hoping to pick up some tips and pointers as pellet cooking is incredibly new to me.

Any other GMG users who can recommend any necessary mods or improvements that are must dos to get the most from my GMG please tell.

I’ve read that it is recommended to elevate meat off the cooking grate due to radiant heat from below. However the GMG second shelf, which I intended to buy, was pretty piss poor - there must be a better solution out there that has been tried and tested. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Hi Nate,

This forum is fairly quiet lately!

The GMG is a good unit, I have a Daniel Boon, about 2 and a half years old now without any issues.

The second shelf is not the best around, but it does it's job.

I found using several layers of foil on the drip tray seems to stop some of the radiated heat from below.

I have never modified my GMG, it has been faultless and holds temperature very well.

You will enjoy using it!
