Yeah I appreciate its pork , but its not the pork category. Im cool with Lamb or Seafood but not a fan of both. Out of interest will all 5 categories count overall?
Im still hoping I can get up there to compete fyi, Its just my 2 cents and not at all trying to put down your great event. Plus im by no means a comp veteran so what does my opinion count for anyway LOL.

All 5 categories count to GC. Constructive feedback is very welcome and appreciated! Nothings set in stone.

Lamb and Seafood both rate way higher with the judges than Pork. In fact Pork is generally the lowest score.

Funny about the judges opinions... cause i always thought that competitors paid entry, plus paid for their own meat supply and fuel and just about everything is on the competitors...

Wouldn't the paying competitors opinions rate higher on the priority list than the people that come along for the free feed and provide their criticisms? If the judges like seafood more than pork and rate it higher as you said, how about you switch the tables around, judges pay entry, protiens are provided to the pitmasters to cook up for the judges. Where does it end? I hand in lobster tails and the next guy hands in prawns, therefore pork looses out?? Hows that fair dinkum?

If you's want it to suit the judges, provide the proteins for the pitmasters.... that'll even out the playing field.

I'm with The Smoking Barrels BBQ on this one.

Jaybeau might be referring to the judges choice? I wouldn't think they'd score pork lower just because it's pork? Maybe Jay can clarify this?
Or maybe it's a case of, judges just prefer to taste/score the other categories, like, if they had a choice they'd prefer to eat lamb/seafood?

I could never be a judge, as I don't like seafood and I'd imagine all the entries have some sort of spicy part, and you know I don't like that.

Edit: Disclaimer: Flake isn't seafood. I like that. A lot. Deep fried. Mmmm, I want some right now.

Every ABA event, this one included lists the categories before teams register. Meatstock had 50 teams with Seafood and Lamb and Port Mac had 83 teams with Lamb. Burleigh will be no different, Greg Dean believed strongly that seafood was to be included last year. The ABA supported that vision and so did the teams. The teams are showing their opinions by entering.

And Lamb just so happens to be IMO better than Pork in the smoker.
