I've read somewhere that Grilldome recommends a 10" diffuser for their XL model.

The reason given was that larger sizes retain too much heat in the firebox, leading to cracking the ceramic.

The 10" is apparently the optimum for diffusing and protecting the ceramic from stress by overheating.

I've used the 13" pizza stone that came with the Grilldome as a diffuser, and it seems to work fine, but I don't think I use enough charcoal in the firebox as you are supposed to I can't wind the temp up much past 180 C.

I'm currently searching the universe for a 10" cast iron skillet without handles to use. Am I wasting my time?

Any and all thoughts or experiences would be welcome.

Thanks.
