Would anybody be able to advise me if these older heavier drums had a gal coating inside. Have cut the top off and given it a warm burn. not sure if the blistering is paint or gal. Very old so very worn inside and out. Fantastic wall thickness though

I didn't reply to this thread, as I also had no way to know. Apparently fire burns off gal coating, but then it would depend on how thick the coating was. Do they even galvanize drums?

download/file.php?mode=view&id=725

cut the top out leaving a 12mm lip

Step drill holes out to 32 mm to take a one inch brass nipple

Used a few times as fire drum as a bit paranoid of coatings

I don't see how they could gal' a drum without warping it like crazy. Would have to be without ends (totally open) and that would leave it very flexible.
