The only hip hop I like is East Coast and we all know hip hop was better in the '90's. A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, EPMD, Ultramagnetic MC's, Public Enemy.... The list is endless with so many great Dee Jay's and MC's but invariably one will always rise to the top

In my mind that is KRS ONE.

The biggest dis in hip hop

I love going to hip hop shows, the crowd goes nuts. One of the best gigs I have been to. He played a couple of weeks later to a much smaller crowd which was even better. HQ in Adelaide going off

I lived my dream seeing KRS live at the palace in Melbourne. Ive seen almost everyone else (J5, Beastie Boys, PE, Aceyalone, Rage against the machine, the list is endless!) but id never caught KRS and seeing as he dosnt fly on planes i thought it would never ever happen. We were apart of history! I seriously doubt he will ever be back.

Absolutely on being a part of history Fents and I am so glad to have seen him live too :D :D

Sometimes I feel sorry for my workmate because he has to put up with me and then I remind myself of where he comes from

Terrible weather today here in Melbourne which meant we did nothing all day except sit around waiting for knock off

I started belly aching by 7.30. All I wanted to do was go home, drink beer and listen to music. He foolishly asked what are you going to listen to

This is not a music fan. In fact I have been to gigs and seen more bands in one night than he has seen in his entire life and he is 17 years my senior

I wanted to listen to Riot Grrrl

This forgotten genre in punk rock was a revelation and a revolution and it's importance should be remembered

here's a coupla tracks

He really pissed me off though when he told me he had never heard of MC5 or Gil Scott Heron

O.K. So I gush enthusiastically and effusively about the bands and music that I am into but I wonder...

Why don't you??

I have been openly mocked and criticized at gallery openings by the painter because I had a different interpretation to their work than the one they intended

I have seen producers, writers and directors of plays engage in such vicious combat that they make the West Bank looks like a peace garden

Music does not have that ambiguity or pretension. It is (generally) a collaborative effort between two, three or more people. Musicians share a common vision and they want to share their art and ideas directly with you.

How fucking cool is that

I listen to obscure, esoteric and extreme music because that is what I love. What I love more though is people talking about music

Own it, love it and live it

On the contrary my friend. That may the most lucid post so far in this thread

The joy and wonder of hearing those crazy characters cuts to the very essence of what I am talking about

I guess my neighbors are not music fans either

I left this morning to go shopping and discover my house has been egged

I guess I should not have put this on at 1 am

I love the blurb for this record

Denver, Colorado’s PRIMITIVE MAN unleash a filthy, malignant maelstrom of blackened doom on their debut album ‘SCORN’. Thrillingly misanthropic in their approach, PRIMITIVE MAN drench their post-apocalyptic vision of the world in waves of feedback, pummeling guitars and hopelessly frightening vocals. If a bright end of summer record is what you’re in need of, run as fast as you can from PRIMTIVE MAN’S ‘SCORN’—this is grade-a hateful, soul-annihilating music of the darkest order.

Have any of you heard of a band called Magrudergrind??

Probably not but that is what is blasting out of my stereo right now

They formed in 2002 and are still going, which is incredible for bands that play this style of music

Punk rock and B Boy culture grew side by side for a long time

And this classic

This is a true story

A workmate told me about one of his friends   drinking in a pub and being approached by a woman

She bought the drinks   and they talked about music for three hours

The woman in question was lady Gaga

Yep I call bullshit too but that is what he told me

With the exception of Peaches, Patti Smith, Kim Gordon or Kathleen Hanna I can pretend lady Gaga would actually do something like that

The conversation she has generated around gender fluidity, sexual exploration, dimorphism and identity may be more important than her music but as far as pop music goes she is pretty fucking AWESOME!!
