Hi Folks,

Well after what has been a long research process yesterday I place my order for a Yoder YS480.

Thanks to all that provided input throughout my evaluation journey that helped me make the decision.

In the final analysis I could see the value in the Yoder. I really like and appreciate the design and engineering that has gone into the product. I also took a whole of life approach to my decision...whilst there is a significant price delta between the Yoder and the other brands I looked at 15 + years whole of life cost of ownership. If I look back now at my investment in my WSM 17 odd years ago and divide that cost by the number of years of reliable use and enjoyment then the initial cost has worked out amazingly cheap......and there is probably another 10 years or more in the ol girl yet. It doesn't owe me a cent!

I feel the Yoder is built to last and believe I will get the same type of whole of life cost of ownership as I have from my WSM. There were a number of features and functions that I liked in the Yoder. The short larger diameter auger, the fact that auger is "disconnected" from the crucible, the direct grilling option (I have ordered the GrillGrate option) the second shelf setup, the pellet box is fully enclosed I have a 17 month old grandson who is into everything, the solid front and side shelves, heavy duty standard grills and the unit and mobile base is integrated and extremely sturdy.

It is built like a battleship!

Won't be getting the YS480 until late Feb or early March but I am OK with the wait.

Cheers,

Fleetz

Awesome decision Fleetz. I have the YS640 and love it! It's a long wait but you will be very happy, they are built like a tank. As you say, a lot of the others look flimsy in comparison.

Happy Smoking

I couldn't do it. I just wouldn't be able to wait nearly 3 months. I don't think i'd sleep, concentrate whilst driving, pay bills properly, nothing. I'd have to be put in to an induced coma to pass the time wait.

If I did not own Hmm...3...4... 5...smokers and a Weber kettle... I'd consider a Yoder. Hell... I'm still considering a Yoder. While the Lang is cool... sleep is nice too...
