I have a Daniel Boone and love it! they are a great unit that produce great tasting food and are VERY well built. The app for Android/iPhone is really easy to use and makes life a bit easier at 3am when you get up to put a brisket on! just set it up put ya meat on and go get some sleep!

Not sure what kinda price they are over there but i got mine pretty cheap - Got the Daniel Boone itself, the Cover (amazing quality its like leather), the skillet tray, the upper smoke shelf, a bag of pellets and a BBQ tool set (useless and poor quality but hey its free) all for NZD$1099 so you most definitely cannot argue with price.

I know that GMG are in the process of web-based control for the units so if your at your home PC you can log-in and check on things also.

I have found the built in Temp Probe is very accurate when tested against my Maverick ET-732 and also an OXO Instant-read so no complaints there

All in all i think they are an amazing pit and unbeatable in its price range, i would however definable recommend 2 things:

#1 FOIL the drip tray and bucket as cleaning this is a BITCH!

#2 Get the front shelf add-on as its a bloody useful as seen in pic below !

Hope this helps :D

Thanks for the review mate. Im looking at the non wifi bowie. Would you recommend putting a gauge on the lid or is the control panel temp pretty spot on?

Yup I agree with Beaver. ...the temp is VERY accurate as it is... money would be better spent on a cover or a maverick wireless probe system. I would recommend enquiring about the non wifi with your dealer as over here in NZ I was told by the importer that they ONLY do wifi versions now and they never increased the price at all so might be worth confirming?

They're a few hundred AU more expensive here. The dealer in my area has the non wifi in stock and is doing a better deal for me (paying cash)

Might get a maverick also. Cheers :)

Nice. ..the other thing to note is on the unit itself its ONLY celsius and can't be changed where as the app over wifi is both. ..this was a bonus for me as everything i do is in fahrenheit. .. also the gauge is standard on the Jim Bowie anyhow shouldn't be extra for it if that's why you were asking :-)

A decent gauge isnt that much when you're paying over a grand haha

I dig my Jim Bowie wifi and have just ordered the extra internal shelf + the front hinged shelf for it. At 225 if I fill the hopper I can get 7hrs before the low pellet alarm goes off. I always use my Maverick and find that the digital display can sometimes read 20F different to the Mav, but the top gauge seems to always match the Mav, which is weird cos in general I don't trust those things at all. I've never used the food probe, mainly cos I use the Maverick one, but will definitely try it this weekend on the back of Drakens comments above.

I've always foiled the drip tray which does make it easy to clean as Draken says. Mine was $1825 + $100 for the cover and that came with 2 bags of GMG pellets and free delivery.

For the money I couldn't be happier :) I cant wait to get that extra internal shelf to see how much I can fit in it at once :D
