Hey guys,

One of the things the eggs don't do as well (or at all) compared to even a basic Weber/Kettle is any form of 2 zone cooking - direct and indirect.

Just came across this item http://www.kamadojoe.com/accessories/bigjoe-heat-deflector.php and it looks like something that could work really well.

Anyone tried something similar or have an opinion as to how well it'd work?

I have a heat deflector for the big joe. Comes in two half moons so you can split for direct and indirect.

Hold off buying one though, if you check the kamado joe website they have just introduced a "divide and conquer" cooking system which may be of interest.

Excellent spot.

Will wait for that - seems to be what I'm after without compromises :)

link to video if anyone's interested:

My only (uneducated) opinion is that this setup introduces so many configurations it gets too complicated.

I have found that the current heat deflector keeps it simple, without the need to go all "inspector gadget " on the cooking.

I'm not sure when this will be introduced in Australia, and I dare say will be a lot more expensive than the $140 got the heat deflector.

Agree with the "too many options" idea.

It would give me a couple that I don't have at the moment with my setup - not just the dual zone.

I've got nothing for a grate lower than the fire ring at all at the moment, so the 2 layers below that would be right up my alley.

It's sure to cost a pretty penny, but may end up cheaper than buying the other grill accessories (that I should have) separately. The frame seems like a decent base to enable the adjustments looked for.
