I cannot find an Australian supplier of this device. Am I missing something?

(Not sure I can afford one anyway).

I am struggling with decision of Primo XL versus Kamado Joe so it would interesting to understand what extra performance or control the Komodo versus these respected brands.

The komodo kamado comes direct from Dennis Linkletter in Bali. The site is www.komodokamado.com the prices are on there but you have to add customs, freight etc and they are in US $ so you have the exchange rate to content with. But i think they are the best BBQ on the market, just very expensive

most of the kamados are on the same level.
the exceptions are

komodo kamado
Primo
Big Steel Keg

all the rest
saffire, bge, ect ect should be rated on the customer support/price

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=987

if you are after a standard kamado i cant recommend http://www.smokekingbbqs.com.au/ more highly (great customer service)
If you are after a Primo in melbourne then BBQ Plus
if you are after a Komodo Kamado then the best to start is http://www.nab.com.au/personal/loans

My personal preference is the Kamado Joe. Theres more innovation in the product. I have been cooking on it for a few years now and the divide and conquer cooking system that i got for xmas (which is an expensive add on) is a great bit of kit which makes it an even more awesome bbq than it was already.

The Primo grills look fantastic and appear to be a great product.

Can't go wrong with either i reckon. Sometime you're just going to want to grill. The Kamado and it's accessories are a bit more superior for that sode of things imo.

I recently bought a Primo XL. The main thing for me was the size of the Kamado, especially for cooking Brisket. If you get a full 6.5kg Point End Brisket, you will struggle to fit it on an 18" round Kamado, the Primo XL is oval and the main length is 23", much better for Brisket or 2 Butts.
This means the main 2 choices for me were the Primo XL or the Big Joe (think that's the name). I think both will do a fantastic job and you won't be disappointed with either but the swayers for me was that the Primo is built in the USA not China and Casey the importer is very accessible and gives fantastic customer service.
I think both will do a great job but go for a 23" Oval if you want to cook large Briskets.

I'm also a primo xl owner. love my BBQ!

Per hectors info he is 100 percent correct, I love doing big briskets and there have been occasions where I have fully loaded the oval xl with a 6kg briskie and wondered how I would have got it in if it was round. It only fits due to the oval shape.

Ping me a message if you have any questions.

Attached a pic to show you what we mean.

Also the oval shape gives you the ability to run 2 cooking zones at the same time (direct and indirect) which I use when doing chicken and things.

Example below

I would agree with the above. If you want a larger grill the primo xl may be the way forward if those accessories come with it.

If you want the 'classic size' joe 18" go with the Kamado Joe.

They do look nice those Primo Xl's. I might consider an upgrade.

Guys, thank you fall all the advice.

My research has largely been approaching a similar "showdown":

PRIMO XL versus Kamado BIG Joe (based on dimensions).

The decision is today - will advise!

NOTE: The Komodo would be wonderful, but the household finance minister went all sweaty at the potential cost - maybe in a few years.......[/i]

Cheers,

Hot tip: hide money and buy a book of raffle tickets.
Place a single ticket on the fridge at home and wait a month by this time the missus will have noticed as she spends most of her time there. After a month purchase a kamado will your well hidden $$$ have a mate call you (that she doesn't know) on the house phone and say that you have won a kamado.
Have the kamado delivered.
Problem solved
