My name is Jacques, originally from South Africa so never BBQ'd on gas until I moved here.
Been cooking on coals since I was about 5. Grew up with hardwood fires and then got into charcoal. Open grills and cheap kettles until the Mrs. got me a Char-Griller Akorn for my birthday this weekend.
Can't wait for steadier temperature control when doing a low and slow for my actual birthday this coming weekend. Thinking of doing some beef ribs and a small brisket for my first cook on the Akorn. My favourite style is low and slow so I've done lots of them but open to advice from someone with a kamado.
Now I have three BBQ's (Gas "bbq", kettle and Kamado) I thought I'd join a forum seeing as I finally qualify for one.
I like camping, boating and Fishing but if I have to choose between the three I prefer BBQ.
Well that's me in a nutshell. Watch out for the smoke signals from Sydney this weekend.
