So,

the time has come for me to say, LETS HAVE A COMPETITION!
i think the forum is big enough for us to have enough entries for me to justify sourcing some prizes whether through member charity, vendors or my own pocket.
The format will be simple and something everyone is familiar with.

Image

-Competition Theme
-set of criteria
-Discussion time to nut out criteria
-announcement of competition
-announcement of prizes i can get together
-hand in date range
-voting dates
-prize announcement

unfortunately at this stage due to cost of postage of prizes to countries other than australia i would suggest we manage this one of 3 ways.

- other countries can enter to be part of the forum but if another country wins the prizes go back into a pool for the next comp
- other countries can enter but the prize will be given to the australian with the highest points
- other countries cannot enter

while i agree it would be easiest think of it as some real competition, put your skills up against other countries.
i like the idea of the prize going back into the pool for next comp, if the Internationals win like 3 times in a row the 4th comp has a BIG prize pool and so on.

as always, i like to leave it to the community to vote on so that will be the next poll while i try to find some nice prizes :)

Love the idea of the Internationals being involved, I think we are lucky to have them on here, so it would be great for them to be involved.

Happy for the prize to go into the pool but we could also order something off of one of the US BBQ sites, if they won (3 times :-) )

Don't mind, just as long as Andy G, Wingman & Richtee are not allowed to enter ....

Can't have those US guys taking all the prizes ....

Ha-ha

Cheers, Dave

not that i will be competing but bring it on i say!
the thing with online comps is that its not what it tastes like its about a few factors

- Look
- meets the objective of the competition
- unique and/or creative

techniques to deliver this are

- butchering techniques and knife skills to provide a clean and professional looking plate
- Photography skills to capture proper lighting in a visually appealing setting
- plating skills
- cooking skills to execute the dish you are trying to create

im sure andy, ritchee, wingman ect have all of these skills but its probably a format where there is more of an even footing due to no tasting requirements
another possible advantage we have is the "out of the box thinking" that we have as a young country to bbq in relation to the international competitors.
voters will likely be primarily australian and what appeals to an international patron may not appeal to those voting.

in any case im not trying to disregard the skills of these amazing people i have mentioned but instead tried to show others that everyone is essentially in for a chance.

regards

Beaver

I say, let them in, but make the competition rules use only Kangaroo, Emu, Kookaburra, Koala etc

I can see it now "Mad Hunky Hot Whang Kookaburra" ...............

Grill Pro is happy to support these & will donate a 1lb bag of Mad Hunky Pork Brine for the first Competition if that helps :D

Cheers, Dave.

PS, I think that if the Forum members are judging these then Beaver should be allowed to compete, what do you all think?

I'll make it the complete Hunky line and add them onto your shipment....

Another thing to consider.. you can't have any identifying equipment/scenery etc. in the photos. I'll go copy off Smoked-Meat's criteria and that might help.
